One of Meath’s leading agri-businesses is taking steps to reduce their carbon emissions and cut their energy costs with a new state of the art lighting system.
McCormack’s Farms, a herb producer in Dunsany has partnered with one of Ireland’s leading light specialists, eLight, to reduce energy consumption by up to 65%. As a result off the new installation, the company will reduce their carbon footprint by 25 tonnes.
McCormack’s Farms who employ over 80 people, supply herbs and baby leaf products to Ireland’s major retail chains. Products include Rocket, Kale and Spinach as well as an extensive range of herbs.
eLight replace the conventional lighting at McCormack’s Farms with new, highly efficient, Led Lighting systems. LED Lighting uses far less electricity than conventional lighting. These installations were carried out at no upfront cost to the businesses. The capital is paid from the energy savings over the next three years.
Eliminating 25 tonnes of carbon dioxide is the equivalent to removing the emissions of 10,500 litres of petrol or 12,000 KG of coal. For a family business, this is an important contribution to the environment.
Eddie McCormack of McCormack’s Farms picked up on the environmental benefit. “We have been a family business for over 50 years. In this time, we have always looked to enhance the sustainability of our business. This is more important than ever, with our customers wanting to know about the carbon footprint of our product.
This new lighting will reduce our carbon footprint by over 25 tonnes every year. Every potential new customer we meet, we will highlight what we do to reduce our environmental impact. To be able to do this, while saving money, is fantastic.”
Among the clients for which eLight completed projects were Hibernia REIT PLC, Euro Car Parks, The Dalata Group PLC and some of Ireland’s leading Management companies.
Commenting on the financial results, eLight Managing Director, Ian McKenna:
